Class 4 Impact-Resistant Roofing in The Colony, TX

If your roof has been replaced after a hailstorm before, you know how quickly the next storm can arrive. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are designed for exactly that situation. They carry the highest rating under UL 2218, the standard test for how roofing holds up to hail, and they are one of the most popular upgrades we install across The Colony and Dallas–Fort Worth.

What "Class 4" Means

Under UL 2218, steel balls ranging from 1¼ inches to 2 inches in diameter are dropped onto roofing samples to simulate hail. To earn a Class 4 rating, the product must take two hits in the same spot from the largest, 2-inch ball without cracking or tearing. That does not make a roof hail-proof, but it does mean the shingles are built to resist the kind of hail that ruins standard shingles.

Texas Insurance Discounts and Form PC068

Many Texas insurance companies offer premium discounts for impact-resistant roofing, with the highest credit generally going to Class 4. Each insurer sets its own discount amount and paperwork requirements. After installation, we complete the Texas Department of Insurance Impact-Resistant Roofing Installation Form (PC068) so you can send it to your agent. Ask your agent ahead of time what discount your policy offers and what documentation they need.

Options We Install

  • Class 4 architectural asphalt shingles from manufacturers including TAMKO, Atlas, GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed
  • Euroshield recycled rubber roofing
  • Commercial Class 4 systems for churches, offices, and restaurants

We recently completed a Class 4 impact-resistant roof covering roughly 36,000 square feet on a church. Large or small, every Class 4 roof we install comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty.

When to Upgrade

The best time to switch to Class 4 is when your roof already needs to be replaced, often after storm or hail damage. Start with a free roof inspection, and if a roof replacement is the right call, we will price both standard and Class 4 options so you can compare.

Frequently Asked Questions About Class 4 Impact-Resistant Roofing

  • What is a Class 4 shingle?

It is a shingle that earned the highest rating under the UL 2218 impact test, which drops steel balls up to 2 inches in diameter onto the roofing to simulate hail.

  • How much of an insurance discount will I get?

It depends on your insurance company. Many Texas insurers offer discounts for impact-resistant roofing, and each sets its own amount. Ask your agent before you choose a shingle.

  • Are Class 4 shingles hail-proof?

No roof is hail-proof. Class 4 shingles are designed to resist much larger hail than standard shingles before cracking or tearing.

  • Do Class 4 shingles come in different styles and colors?

Yes. Today's Class 4 shingles come in the same architectural styles and colors as standard shingles, so most homes can upgrade without changing their look.

They usually cost more than standard architectural shingles. We quote both options side by side so you can weigh the upfront cost against durability and any insurance discount.
